  The Canadian Horticultural Council’s proposal for an Agri-Science Cluster for Horticulture is being funded in the amount of $3,600,000 for the period of April 1, 2010 to March 31, 2013. Under the terms and conditions of the program, industry is required to provide $976,000 in matching funds. This represents a significant contribution to the sector. The CHC is pleased to announce the CanadaGAP (On-Farm Food Safety) Program certification options B and C have now been successfully benchmarked against the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) requirements. GFSI approval means CanadaGAP is recognized as equivalent to other GFSI-benchmarked food safety programs for the primary production sector, such as SQF 1000, GlobalGAP (food safety elements only) and PrimusGFS, which many buyers require, both in Canada and abroad. On May 12, members of the CHC Greenhouse Committee met in B.C. for tours of Glenwood Valley Farms, hosted by Herb Schlacht, and Sunnyside Greenhouse, hosted by Bram Moerman.
