Making our voice heard

Join the Canadian Horticultural Council (CHC), the Canadian Produce Marketing Association (CPMA), and other growers and industry representatives in Ottawa as we lobby government in support of long-term sustainability for our industry and the health of Canadians.

Mark your calendars!

What: CPMA and CHC Fall Harvest Meetings on Parliament Hill
Where: Ottawa Sheraton Hotel & Parliament Hill
When: November 6-8*, 2017

Why should I participate?

  • Impact: The right policy decisions can have tremendously positive impacts on the produce industry. During last year’s Fall Harvest event, we met with nearly 60 elected representatives and their staff to discuss key issues, including improvements to temporary foreign worker programs. Shortly thereafter, the government lifted the four-in, four-out cumulative duration rule. Our voices were heard; with your help, they will be heard again.
  • Strength in numbers: Over 40 growers and industry representatives joined us in Ottawa last year. We hope more of you will participate this year. The more who participate, the greater the number of elected officials we will be able to meet with, and the greater our chances of success.
  • VIP reception with Chef Michael Smith: Event participants, MPs, and other key decision makers are invited to join a special VIP reception featuring Canada’s famous chef, Michael Smith, Ambassador for CPMA’s Half Your Plate

How much will it cost?

The event workshops and the VIP reception with Chef Michael Smith are free for Fall Harvest participants; however, participants are expected to pay their own travel and accommodations. CPMA and CHC have obtained a preferred room rate at the Ottawa Sheraton of $175 plus tax.

How do I register?

Registration details, including hotel booking, will be available soon. Until then, please mark your calendars to be in Ottawa from November 6-8, 2017.

* Participants must attend a mandatory information and training session during the afternoon of November 6. Participants who do not attend the information and training session will be ineligible to participate in subsequent meetings.

We are always looking for more members to join us. To find out how you can be involved, give us a call at 613-226-4880 or contact admin@hortcouncil.ca.
