Crop Protection Committee
The Crop Protection Committee assembles a dedicated group of Canadian Horticultural Council members who possess expertise in the areas of crop protection, plant health and environmental issues, combined with hands-on experience as growers. The Committee meets once a year in March at the Annual General Meeting to deal with a wide range of business including crop protection tools, minor use product registrations, proposed regulatory changes, Integrated Pest Management (IPM) projects, trade irritants, and other concerns.

Crop Protection Advisory Committee
A subcommittee of the Crop, Plant Protection and Environment Committee of the CHC, the Crop Protection Advisory Committee has as its goal to develop and advance crop protection management policies and programs that promote the economic viability and competitiveness of Canadian farmers within a sustainable development framework. Regional members are appointed at the Annual General Meeting.
About Jason Smith, Chair
Jason Smith is a fourth-generation blueberry grower who operates a 15-acre farm in Abbotsford, B.C. He is currently Vice-President of BC Berry Cultivar Development Inc. and is Past-Chair of the BC Blueberry Council. He is also involved with the North American Blueberry Council Finance Committee and the U.S. Highbush Blueberry Council Good Agricultural Practices Committee. Jason has also worked off-farm for Terralink Horticulture, a major crop input supply company, for about 13 years, and has been operating PIER Management and Consulting, his own consulting and product supply company, for the last 3.5 years.
Jason operates Fraser Berry Farms with his wife Melissa and two daughters Sophia and Charlie. His family started blueberry farming in the Fraser Valley in 1949.
